Information
Rin Rin 🡢 is a transitional text typeface family rooted in the history of Old Style No. 1, originally designed by Alexander Phemister in 1829 during his tenure at Miller and Richards in Edinburgh, Scotland. The project began as a revival of this historical form and gradually evolved into a contemporary reinterpretation, reshaping its character for the needs of present-day typography. Rin Rin retains the distinctive qualities of its transitional origins, balancing the warmth of Old Style forms with a more vertical stress, increased contrast, and the sharper structure associated with the period.
Rin Rin is composed of 10 styles, with five weights and matching italics, developed as a complete family rather than simply an expansion of the original design. The system was drawn and refined with editorial typography in mind, from long-form reading and books to magazines, identities, packaging, and other applications where text carries both information and character. Its historical foundation gives Rin Rin a recognizable voice, while its expanded range allows that voice to shift naturally across different scales and contexts. Subtle by nature, Rin Rin is made to carry the voice of the text.

Rin Rin is designed for editorial typography, long-form reading, books, magazines, and applications where the voice of the text takes the lead. Its range of five weights and matching italics allows it to move naturally between quiet passages, considered headlines, captions, and more expressive typographic compositions. Ideal for publishing, cultural identities, editorial design, literary projects, packaging, and brands that value a strong typographic voice, Rin Rin brings historical character into contemporary settings. Whether used for extended reading or larger statements, it maintains a balance between warmth, structure, and subtle expression.
